This boat had 2 owners since new and had been upgraded with time.
Well equipped, only needs a windvane to go around the world.....
Though a dated design with short waterline and full keel, this boat sails better than her contemporaries, the relative scarcity and traditional styling have made it a bit of a cult object.
Designed by Bill Luders, this boat fine, clean entry and streamlined keel means head seas won't pound her crew into exhaustion like some light-displacement full-bodied boats. The cutaway forefoot enables her come about in her own length. Her generous beam and deep 4,500 lb. keel provide the stability and righting moment to carry full sail when the rest of the fleet is reefing. With a hull strong enough to take a drubbing and fittings husky enough to take on just about any sea state, this Luders 33 is one tough customer indeed.
The Luders 33 accomplished such feats as being the boat that Robin Lee Graham circumnavigated the world in, becoming the youngest person to ever do so. The design was that of a typical Racer/Cruiser from the 1960s and has a strong ownership following. There is an active Owners Association that can be reached at (860)445-2380 . Featured as one of "Twenty Great Used Boat Bargains" in the October 1994 issue of Cruising World, the Luders 33 featured heavy construction with a design emphasis on seakeeping ability.
These full keel designs are well known for their stout construction, sailing performance and sea keeping ability. There is plenty or storage, enough to store up o 6 monts of caned food and your gear for 3.
One can be found on the used-boat market for $28,000 to $35,000.
