A survey was performed a year ago for insurance purposes. This survey is available here. The surveyor’s recommendations have all been implemented, and she is now in even better shape than when the survey was done.
Indeed, this boat is ready to sail away now, with only a little cosmetic work
This strong and swift passagemaker is the Cal 2-46 centre-cockpit sailing cruiser. She has everything that anyone would want in a cruising vessel – lots of interior space for living aboard in comfort plus all of the gear for safe, fast and enjoyable sailing.
She was in the same US family for thirty years before being sold to the current owner (a former Australian Naval engineering officer) who, with his family, has enjoyed the last year sailing her throughout the Florida Keys, the Bahamas, Cuba, Mexico, Belize and Guatemala.
She is currently lying at the Mar Marina in the Rio Dulce river, Guatemala, which is only 35 miles from the spectacular reefs and cruising grounds of Belize, and a stone’s throw from the rest of the Caribbean.
The legendary Bill Lapworth www.seayanika.com/lat38apr02.htmldesigned this yacht, with 145 of the two Cal-46 versions having been built. This is hull #106 built in 1973. Many Cal 46s have cruised the world and this particular one is in good shape and ready to leave again tomorrow. She is an extensively fitted out boat (refer below) and has design features including a full cruising keel, keel-stepped mast and “bullet proof” solid fibreglass hull.
A recent surveyor’s report is available giving her a clean bill of health. The only issues are cosmetic, e.g., she would benefit from a topsides repaint, which is cheaply available here on the Rio Dulce dockyards.
The aft stateroom has a double bunk, enclosed head with shower and a separate single bunk. (This could easily be remodelled into two separate cabins.)
A companionway leads past a work/nav station to starboard, walk-in engine room to port, and forward is the spacious galley/salon. The large dinette table has good seating and converts to a double bed. There are huge amounts of storage space throughout this boat.
The forward stateroom has a large double vee bunk with an enclosed head and vanity to stbd and a large hanging locker to port. (This area is also easily convertible to two separate double cabins.)
The outside steering station and cockpit is amidships with a full dodger, new bimini top, and pedestal steering.
