Bristow's comment 1970
" The Nicholson 38 can genuinely claim to be called a 90/90 rather that what has been widely know and referred to in the past as a 50/50 cruiser. Her lines and performance are generally associated with those of a seasoned racing racing yacht rather than a motor sailer, yet her hull is driven at 7-8 knots under full power and maintains a high cruising speed with comfort in adverse weather.
The 50 hp engine is situated well away from living and sleeping quarters.
Here is the ideal family cruiser, seaworthy, with everything designed to be closed at hand, eliminating unnecessary running about on deck. Features include a well equipped galley, two toilets, a large main saloon and aftercabin."
From the beginning this yacht was consider relatively expensive so it appealed mainly to professional or retired owners.
Over the years, many have completed long offshore passages and a few have found their way round the world. At least six were placed by special specifications to be sold in the united states as the cruiseaway 38.
