-May 2011- Looking at the 15+ Whitby 42 for sale all over the world and at the present time, we can say this is most probably the best Whitby on the market.
The boat has been totally refitted over the past 4 years and is ready to go at a bargain price.
Check the equipment list below.
Ted Brewer has long been recognized as one of the outstanding designers of cruising boats of all kinds. Brewer’s designs always stand out for their practicality, comfort, and well-mannered performance. The Whitby 42 was introduced in 1972 and is arguably his most commercially successful design. This one was built by Whitby Boat Works of Ontario, Canada.
Auxiliary power is a Ford Lehman diesel engine installed beneath the cockpit deck. It has plenty of power for a 23,000 lb. cruising boat, and the 210 gallon fuel tanks provides a cruising range of more than 1,200 miles without refueling. The engine room is easily accessed for service and, if engine replacement or major overhaul is ever necessary, the cockpit sole is removable (Engine and transmission overhauled in dec 2008).
The strength of the Whitby 42 clearly lies in her accommodations. There are good-sized staterooms forward and aft, and both have large adjoining heads. The "U" shaped galley is spacious and perfectly positioned to keep the cook out of the way of passengers and crew. In addition, there is a large saloon, comfortable navigation station and even a workbench along the passageway between the navigation station and after stateroom. The Whitby 42 is justifiably regarded as one of the most livable production boats to be found in this size range.

Kurt and Doris Hansen started their boatbuilding company in 1958, building Albacore, International 14 and other dinghies.
In 1960, they became the Whitby Boat Works. The original Whitby factory burned down in 1964, and moved temporarily (it would be years before they rebuilt and returned to the original site) to Ajax, with the ensuing confusion of the Whitby Boat Works located in the neighbouring town. More than 600 Alberg 30s, about 250 Alberg 37s, nearly the same number of Whitby 42s, 19 Whitby 45s and a few 55s rolled out of the doors before the operation closed down in June 1988.
